Cuvier Georges Original Portrait from 1830s. Cuvier (1769-1832) is considered to the father of vertebrate paleontology and published many equally important works on biology and taxonomy of extant vertebrates. Hay O. P. 1929 – 1930 SECOND BIBLIOGRAPHY AND CATALOGUE OF THE FOSSIL VERTEBRATA OF NORTH AMERICA Carnegie Institution Publication #390 Two massive volumes, both in wraps overall light wear, minor chips, short tear to wrap along spine, small stain to paper spine cover, blind stamp else contents clean and a very good set of a rather scarce and very important vertebrate paleontology reference. Vol. 1 with 916 pp., Vol. 2 with 1074 pp. While a prolific paleontologist in his own right, Hay took it upon himself to compile an exhaustive catalog of North American vertebrate fossils, often reassigning specimens to other genera, neglecting type specimens or lack thereof, designating lectotypes, etc.. which had the end result of causing 100 years of chaos, which still continues as the current generation of researchers works through the mess he created. Hence, this volume is a must have primary reference for the fossil vertebrate researcher and enthusiast.

Hitchcock E. 1841 FINAL REPORT ON THE GEOLOGY OF MASSACHUSETTS complete in one volume. Large 4to, in original boards which have some edge wear, small tear along gutter where board meets spine, ex-town library with period label affixed to front board from where they volume originated, but no stamps inside. Overall a very good binding, hinges a bit tender but holding firm, some edge wear. Period bookplate on front paste down, occasional foxing, mostly to preliminary pages, otherwise light and occasional. Otherwise contents generally clean with all plates and the large hand colored folding map present which is in good condition. Note in the photo, the lower left corner of the map is folded under, and does preserve the printed map border. Map has a few fold crease tears otherwise is vg. A good, solid copy of Hitchcock’s classic work. This is one of the volumes originally given to each town in Massachusetts when the report was published, which makes it somewhat unique as very few of them still exist. Scarce.

Malcolm W. and Faribault E. R. 1916 REGIONS AURIFERES DA LA NOUVELLE-ECOSSE Geological Survey of Canada Memoir #20 large 8vo, wraps with some wear, short tears, old stamp of Charles Park, and was his personal copy, cloth tape along spine, rear wrap loose but large folding maps present, contents with some, but generally light wear and overall the contents are very good with 384 pp., 42 plates, 24 figures and two large folding maps in the map packet at the rear of volume. Focused on the gold mining regions of Nova Scotia, text in french. This volume was the precursor to Malcolm's 1929 classic GOLD FIELDS OF NOVA SCOTIA, and contains as much, if not more data, site and deposit descriptions and other general to technical data and details on the Nova Scotia gold deposits.

Owen David Dale 1852 REPORT OF A GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF WISCONSIN, IOWA, AND MINNESOTA AND INCIDENTALLY OF A PORTION OF NEBRASKA TERRITORY Lippencott, Grambo & Co., Philadelphia (publisher). 4to, text and plate volumes bound together in recent (50 yrs or younger) binding with gilt titles, some wear to contents with scattered foxing, small tidemark on some plate margins, very edge of some pages worn, darkened with short tears. The large folding and partly hand-colored geologic map of the Midwest is present with some separations along fold creases, and damage along one in particular (see photos). The map measures 28 x 48 inches and includes Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and portions of Missouri and Illinois, and is regarded as one of the more important geologic maps produced in North America during the middle 19th century. The rest of the plates called for are present and overall, the volume is a good copy. With 623 pp., 2 folding maps, numerous hand colored folding sections, 27 engraved plates of fossils ranging from trilobites to fossil turtle shells and all in between, and scores of woodcuts. Includes a report by Leidy “ON THE FOSSIL MAMMALIA AND REPTILIA COLLECTED DURING THE SURVEY” amongst others by Shumard, Whittlesey, Norwood, and more. Salter J. W. 1858 - FIGURES AND DESCRIPTIONS OF CANADIAN ORGANIC REMAINS: DECADES I-IV bound together in buckrum, ex-natural history society library copy, contents with occasional foxing to blank reverse side of some plates and blank end papers else the volume is generally clean. One plate has a light marginal tide mark but the rest of contents are very good, with tissue guards for many of the fossil plates intact. The Decades, or parts are paginated as follows: (1) Decade I (1859) with 47 pp., 10 plates; (2) Decade II with 102 pp., 21 plates; (3) Decade III (1858) with 102 pp., 11 plates; and (4) Decade IV (1859) with 72 pp., 10 plates. a nice, and historic volume in Canadian paleontology which covers diverse fossil groups including mollusca, lots on crinoids with gorgeous plates, graptolites, and more.
